What Is the Affluence Addiction?

The Affluence Addiction is the state of being where your mind is consumed by the race for more.

More money.

More stuff.

More status.

It’s not just about wealth—it’s about the constant internal pressure that says: you don’t have enough yet.

And it shows up differently depending on where you are.

If you feel like you don’t have enough money, you may find yourself stuck in anxiety, fear, and obsession around how to get it. You might notice anger or jealousy toward people who seem to have more.

If you have a little more than enough—often in the $100K–$250K range—you might feel frustration. It can seem like things should be easier by now. You expected more freedom, more relief… and instead, you’re still trying to figure it out.

And if you have plenty of money?

That’s when a different kind of fear can take over—the fear of losing it. The fear that it’s still not enough. And ironically, that can intensify the drive to keep accumulating.

If any of this sounds familiar, it’s not your fault.

We are conditioned from a very young age to believe in a kind of “arrival point.” A magical place where everything will finally be handled. Where the problems stop. Where you can relax and enjoy your life.

Some people call this retirement.

Others believe it’s hitting a certain number—like a million dollars.

But the people who actually reach those milestones often discover something unexpected.

The finish line doesn’t exist.

Money, in many ways, is a construct. And the deeper things people are chasing—happiness, fulfillment, peace, love—don’t come from reaching a number.

They come from within.

Which means many people spend years working, striving, and sacrificing to reach a place that was never going to give them what they thought it would.

Because there’s always another peak.

Another level.

Another goal.

Another version of “not enough.”

That’s the nature of growth—and it doesn’t stop.

But when you’re caught in the Affluence Addiction, it can turn into a race that quietly pulls you away from what actually matters.

Relationships get sacrificed.

Time gets traded.

Presence gets lost.

And before you know it, you’ve spent years chasing something that never had the power to fulfill you in the first place.

So how do you break free?

It starts by changing your relationship with money.

Not by rejecting it. Not by avoiding it.

But by seeing it clearly—and no longer asking it to give you what it was never meant to provide.

Because the moment you stop chasing “enough”…

you create space to actually experience what you already have.

And that’s where everything begins to shift.
